Light

Today, I'd like to talk about how Jamie learnt the word 'light' (in Korean). In the evening on the 2nd of January when we were in the Preston City Hall for Jamie's 12 month immunisation, Jamie spoted lots of ceiling lights and began asking what they were by pointing at each of them and saying 'that?' ('Jeo-geo' in a rising tone) and of course, her eyes full of inquiring shine. As her mum gave answers to each inquiry, Jamie switched her inquring questions to those of confirmation by asking 'light?' ([dng] Jamie's pronunciation was [di:]). Her mum believes that was the moment of growth spurt in terms of language development since Jamie has been producing a number of words after the incident. They include 'clock', 'flower', 'rabbit', 'pig', 'bread', 'food', 'hello', 'heater', 'alarm' and these examples are only to mention just a few among the words Jamie has pronounced. Jamie can also sing a couple of Korean primary school songs 'Rabbit' and 'A cottage by the railway' as well (The first couple of lines are clear what songs they are, and then she seems to make up rest of the lines as she continues). By the way, this photo was taken at Christmas lunch hosted by Reid family (Happy Reid sitting at the front with her son Christian)...a nice one.
